Matsumoto portrays the web of relationships in Bar Genet, a meeting place for transgenders, gays, lesbians and bohemian free-thinkers. This monumental work of Japanese experimental film in a restored version.
This loose reinterpretation of Oedipus Rex is set in Tokyo’s colourful underground scene, populated by transvestites, bohemians, druggies and drop-outs. The swinging sixties live again in the exuberant costumes and pop-art references.
