Pink Flamingos
John Waters / US, 1972 / 93 min.
John Waters’ cult & shock comedy about a collection of competitive outsiders grouped around drag queen Divine became a figurehead of queer cinema. Not for the faint-hearted.

All the American Dream’s values are shredded in John Waters’ tale of nonconformist individuals – misfits, thieves, drag queens, representatives of what would know be referred to as the LHBTQI+ movement – were grotesque, ultra low-budget comedies in which over the top-shock effects were used to promote liberating alternative laughter.
Things don’t get much trashier than in Pink Flamingos (4K restoration will be screened). Divine battles three anti-social types for the title of 'most disgusting dirtbag in Baltimore' – an eagerly accepted challenge culminating in the notorious final scene which still makes many shocked viewers leave the cinema.
