Hello, It's Me
Frunze Dovlatyan / SUHH, 1966 / 136 min.
One of the discoveries of the Cannes Classics programme of the past year, based on the life of great Armenian physicist Artem Alikhanyan. A poetic, surprisingly erotic tale of lost loves clashing with Eastern and Western cultures.

Artyom, a famous young physicist, is in love with Lyusya, a sergeant in the Red Army, who is suddenly ordered to the front. Meanwhile, he is sent to remote mount Aragats to set up a space-ray research center, considered of great wartime importance.
This Cannes 1966 Competition entry from Armenian filmmaker Frunze Dovlatyan (1927-1997) is his third feature, served by superb widescreen cinematography, an unforgetable melancholic jazz score and exceptionnal performances by an eye-catching iconic cast.
'It really is a very strange film: abstruse scientific work is juxtaposed with romanticism, yearning, loneliness, eroticism and a mystified acceptance of the workings of fate.' (The Guardian)
Director’s cut
This 4K restoration of the film by the National Cinema Centre of Armenia and realised by Locomotive Classics image lab (Latvia) is based on the camera negative and original soundtracks. For the first time, this restoration is a director’s cut with a new dual-language, Armenian-Russian sound mix, which helps to preserve the contextual and linguistic integrity of the narrative.
