Hiroshima mon amour
Alain Resnais / FR, JP, 1958 / 90 min.
Alain Resnais’ famous classic, based on a screenplay by writer Marguerite Duras. The bomb dropped on Hiroshima serves as the reference point as a couple process their respective war traumas. In this exceptional work past and present merge seamlessly.

Emmanuelle Riva plays a French actress – referred to as ‘Elle’ – who falls in love with a Japanese architect (Eiji Okada), referred to as ‘Lui’. The action is set in post-war Hiroshima as the city is rebuilt with great difficulty, interspersed with footage of the French town of Nevers during WWII.
4K restoration by Argos Films, Fondation Groupama Gan, Fondation Technicolor and Cineteca Bologna, with the support of the CNC.
