Hospital
Frederick Wiseman / US, 1970 / 82 min.
Classic fly-on-the-wall documentary maker Frederick Wiseman is a friend of the film making duo of Véréna Paravel and Lucien Castaing-Taylor. In 1970, he recorded the daily events at the Metropolitan Hospital in New York City, just like Paravel and Castaing-Taylor did some 50 years’ later with their film De Humani Corporis Fabrica shot at Parisian hospitals.

What’s it like at the accident and emergency department of a New York hospital? Direct Cinema director Frederick Wiseman who, with his background as a lawyer, was interested in the inner workings of the public institutions serving Americans, grabbed his camera and filmed dozens of hours of footage at the Metropolitan Hospital.
