Jacquot de Nantes

Agnès Varda / FR, 1991 / 119 min.

Thanks to unique films such as Les parapluies de Cherbourg and Les demoiselles de Rochefort, Jacques Demy has gone down in film history as 'the maestro of the sung feature film', or in French 'les films enchantés'. He passed away in 1990. Agnès Varda, both a fellow filmmaker and his life partner, created a beautiful in memoriam in Jacquot de Nantes. An exceptional aspect of the film is that it is based on Demy's recollections of his youth, which he wrote down and related to her, right up until the shooting of the film, shortly before his death.
