Spike Lee / US, 1983 / 60 min.
Spike Lee’s graduate school thesis filmfor the New York University Film School is set in the graffiti-covered Brooklyn neighbourhood of Bedford-Stuyvesant. Lee portrays the life of Zack Homer, who works in a local barbershop which he takes over after his boss’s violent death. Award winner at the Locarno Film Festival.

Zack works at one of those old-school barbershops everyone hangs out at for a chat, a joke and some gossip. The owner of Joe’s Bed-Stuy Barbershop’s is fine with that: he doesn’t really care much for hip new hair trends. Art direction bij Felix de Rooy.
