Wealthy businessman Charles Desvallées (Michel Bouquet) begins to suspect that his wife Hélène (Stéphane Audran) is having an affair. He hires a private detective to confirm his fears. Charles’ obsession with Hélène’s infidelity builds and builds, whereupon the story takes an unexpected turn.
