Murder by Contract
Irving Lerner / US, 1958 / 80 min.
Classic from Columbia Pictures, which recently celebrated its centenary. Stylish, idiosyncratic film noir reveals the thoughts of hitman assigned to kill a witness in a high-profile criminal trial.

Stone-cold hitman Claude (Vince Edwards) accepts an assignment in LA to eliminate ex-gangster Billie (Caprice Toriel) before she testifies in front of a grand jury against her former boss. Claude meticulously plans how he will kill Billie as she is guarded day and night by two bodyguards, however his killer cool ebbs away as coincidence and bad luck mar his plans. Then the hunter becomes the hunted when he attempts to back out.
