Opening Ceremony

Cinedans Festival 2022

Cinedans FEST '22 opens with a festive program offering a taste of what is to be seen and experienced in the coming festival.

On display will be the performance Reach by Karel van Laere with dancer Simon Bus.

Karel van Laere's work lies at the intersection of live performance, film and visual art. The starting point for the performance Reach is his fascination for laparoscopic instruments which are used in surgery. To him, dissecting delicate objects with these instruments is an intimate and fragile process that conceals beauty as well as vulnerability. In Reach, Karel enters into a dialogue with experimental hip hop dancer Simon Bus.

Also on the program is the film Vivaldis by choreographer Philippe Decouflé, about a strange tribe high up in the French Alps who dance in brightly coloured costumes to the rhythm of Vivaldi.

The evening will be presented by Thomas Bos, dancer, choreographer and director, and also co-founder of the well-known 155 (one-five-five), a formation of creative friends. 155 creates theatrical performances with breakdance, acrobatics, clubbing and multimedia, in which they do not shy away from humour and putting things into perspective. They also regularly make films, which are always screened at Cinedans. We are proud that their latest film Stompen will also be shown at Cinedans FEST '22!
