Pather Panchali

Satyajit Ray / IN, 1955 / 115 min.

Italian neorealism was actually past its heyday when filmmaker Satyajit Ray produced what would become the leading Indian exponent of the genre with his  Pather Panchali. It was the first in the so-called Apu trilogy, films about people at the bottom of Indian society as they followed the childhood, adolescence and young adulthood of the titular figure.
