Showgirls

Paul Verhoeven / FR, US, 1995 / 131 min.

Luca Guadagnino has chosen one of his favourite films to show in Eye . Las Vegas is the backdrop against which dancer Nomi Malone (Elizabeth Berkley) climbs from being a lap dancer in a sleazy nightclub to the main attraction in a topless show at the famous Stardust Club.

Malone’s climb to the top does not leave her unscathed. To make it, you need absolutely ruthless, unscrupulous ambition to propel you through the coke-fuelled glitz and glam of the showbiz world, where there’s only one ultimate truth: at the end of the night, the owner of the club counts the dollars – the fruits of the hard work put in by the showgirls.

Screening of the 4K restored version, completed in 2016. The title was restored in 4K from the original camera negative. Image restoration was carried out by Technicolor, and sound restoration by L.E. Diapason. The restoration was supervised by director Paul Verhoeven and Pathé.
