Walter Matthau turns in a stunning performance as Morris Buttermaker, a former lower-league baseball player who turns to drink later in life. Morris gets an opportunity to coach the Bears, a young baseball team in the Minor League, where his unconventional coaching methods prove their worth. Tatum O'Neal plays the team’s big hope, star pitcher Amanda Wurlitzer. The success of The Bad News Bears lead to many more (TV and film) follow-ups, and later even a remake by Richard Linklater.
