To Sleep with Anger
Charles Burnett / US, 1990 / 101 min.
Family drama, black comedy and magical realism all rolled into one in this third, long underappreciated film from Charles Burnett. The unexpected arrival of an old, mysterious friend (Danny Glover) shakes a Los Angeles family to the core.

Danny Glover puts in a strong performance as Harry, a mysterious hobo from the South. This devilish charmer turns up, completely out of the blue, on the doorstep of some old friends in South Central Los Angeles. Simmering tensions – and much more – soon start to boil over in what initially seemed a happy household. How can they get rid of Harry?
