Stylised documentary portrait of the Levantkade in Amsterdam and the ‘urban nomads’ that found refuge in that no-mans-land in the late 1980s. Before the film, Mark Paul Meyer will present a book-in-progress on Rosemarie Blank's artistic research: a peek into her artistic kitchen.
During the 1920s, the Levantkade in Amsterdam’s eastern port area was a transit station for Eastern European migrants heading for South America. During the 1980s, it was a rugged no-mans-land that provided refuge for, among other people, the homeless and immigrants, who didn’t fit in elsewhere.
Mark Paul Meyer will present a book-in-progress, inspired by Rosemarie Blank's artistic research that became a natural way of working throughout her life. The book consists of reports, ‘messages’ from the studio in the form of photomontages and short texts. The book is an artistic reflection and retrospective of her work, a glimpse into Rosemarie Blank's "artistic kitchen", and at the same time an artist's book. Trained as a visual artist, this book shows that her works have always been the product of Blank being a visual artist, photographer and filmmaker at the same time.
