Woningnood in Amsterdam
Amsterdam Forever Young: Woningnood in Amsterdam
Films and lecture by Marcel van Engelen, author of De stad – het verhaal van Amsterdam van 1980 tot vandaag (2024) about housing shortage, long-term vacancies, speculators and squatting are recurring subjects on Amsterdam’s political agenda. The huge deficit of homes has been leading to revolt since the 1970s.

However there is also revived activism as Hotel Mokum (Yannesh Meijman, 2024) reveals. This short documentary is aligned with a tradition of squatting films from Amsterdam such as the Meijman-adored Waar de ratten koning zijn (1985), In krakende welstand (1990) and Transit Levantkade (1991) a documentary on urban nomads that was restored by Eye this year.
