Eye wins European award for inclusive film education

Good news: Eye Filmmuseum has won the Art Explora – Académie des Beaux-Arts European Award! With this €50,000 prize, Eye and its European partners can take a significant step towards making film education truly accessible to all children.

Film for the very youngest

Cinemini Europe introduces children aged 3 to 6 to film through play. With short European films, creative activities, and practical tools for teachers and film professionals, the programme already reaches around 10,000 children across Europe each year.

Now also for deaf and hard-of-hearing children

Although film is primarily a visual medium, deaf and hard-of-hearing children are often overlooked in cultural projects. Eye and its European partners want to change this. With support from Art Explora, Cinemini Europe will develop a new toolkit and film selection that is not only accessible, but also resonates with the lived experience of these children. The project will be developed in collaboration with inclusive schools and childcare centres.

With this award, we are building an inclusive foundation for film education in Europe – right from the very beginning.

Making a difference together

Here, inclusion is not treated as an add-on, but as the starting point. Children, parents, and experts will be closely involved. Think of activities that tap into visual and tactile experiences, such as shadow play, movement, and gesture-based storytelling.

What happens next?

In 2026, the Cinemini Europe project team will begin developing and testing the new materials. Once completed, they will be integrated into the existing Cinemini programme, allowing thousands of children to benefit. Everything will be made freely available via cinemini-europe.eu.
