A Season of Classic Films

A Season of Classics Films offers free screenings across Europe until the end of June 2021. The series aims to raise awareness of the work of national and regional film archives in Europe, especially among young adults. Most of the films that are screened are new digital restorations.
Eye screens Een ochtend van zes weken (1966), the Dutch New Wave classic Nikolai van der Heyde, as part of the A Season of Classic Films series.
With 22 participating institutions, the initiative also supports the reopening of European film archives, all of which have been affected by the Covid 19 crisis. A number of institutions also offer streaming services.
The initiative is financially supported by the EU Creative Europe programme and led by the Association des Cinémathèques Européennes (ACE). Eye director and ACE president Sandra den Hamer previously called for increased collaboration to make European film heritage widely accessible at the Lumière Film Festival’s International Classic Films Market in Lyon. A Season of Classics Films brings these films even closer to audiences.
