Hidden Films: Expanding Archival Perspectives
30 May — 2 June 2027
still Die schwarze Kugel oder Die geheimnisvollen Schwestern (Franz Hofer, DE 1913)
“Hidden Films,” will explore how archival silences, gaps and absences have shaped our understanding of audiovisual history and how they came into being. It will examine the influences of institutional policies, preservation practices, documentation, technological developments and historical biases about which films are preserved, documented, accessed or marginalised and the ways those can be addressed and challenged - through critical, decolonial, transcultural approaches and collaborations.
From 30 May through 2 June 2027, Eye Filmmuseum, the University of Amsterdam and Utrecht University will present the 12th Eye International Conference with the theme ‘Hidden Films: Expanding Archival Perspectives’.
