Nouchka van Brakel
21 — 22 October 2022

Plenty of reasons to create a programme featuring Nouchka van Brakel’s films on 21 and 22 October and several films can already be watched online using Eye Film Player.
Nouchka van Brakel debuted with the short film Sabotage 55 years ago and went on to become the first female Dutch filmmaker to reach major audiences with films that centred on women – think of her works such as Het debuut (1977), Een vrouw als Eva (1979) and Van de koele meren des doods (1982), first released 40 years ago.

Nouchka van Brakel broke many grounds with her oeuvre. She made her debut 55 years ago with the short film Sabotage, and was the first woman to graduate from the Netherlands Film Academy, where she would later teach film directing for almost twenty years.
Eye will screen her successful psychological drama Van de koele meren des doods (Hedwig: The Quiet Lakes) on 21 October with a discussion with the director. The restored version will enjoy its silver screen premiere. In 2005, producer Sigma Filmproductions donated the film's negatives to Eye. This formed the basis of the digital restoration on 4K done by Eye.

Her short films will be screened on 22 October: Sabotage, De baby in de boom and Een winkelier keert niet weerom, the last instalment of the anthology film Zwaarmoedige verhalen voor bij de centrale verwarming. In between the films, short conversations with Nouchka van Brakel will take place.
