300

Zack Snyder / US, 2006 / 117 min.

Previous films on the Classics must of course be represented at the première of Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey. Zack Snyder made a film adaptation of Frank Miller’s graphic novel on the Battle of Thermopylae, when three hundred Spartan warriors made mincemeat of King Xerxes’ Persian army.

480 BC. Sparta receives news that a one-million-strong army is approaching. King Leonidas knows what he has to do to oppose the vain King Xerxes. The Persian envoys are killed and, accompanied by just three hundred elite warriors, Leonidas (Gerard Butler) decides to advance on Thermopylae, where a huge fleet awaits.

Screens to accompany Christopher Nolan’s latest film, The Odyssey.
