Todd Haynes / US, 2019 / 126 min.
Teflon makes a great non-stick coating. But the chemicals needed to produce it are highly toxic, as farmer Wilbur Tennant finds out: chemicals giant DuPont has been dumping its waste onto his land for years. Lauded courtroom drama by Todd Haynes, with a powerful role for Mark Ruffalo as a committed attorney.

Lawyer Rob Bilott seems to have it made: he works for a firm that represents the interests of big concerns – the dollars are flowing in, and his career is really taking off. Until one fine day farmer Wilburt Tennant visits his office and asks Bilott to instigate proceedings against chemicals giant DuPont, which is poisoning his land and cattle.

Much in life is uncertain, but one thing is sure: climate change. Cinema Ecologica focuses on how film directors depict the relationship between humanity and the earth: from nail-biting disaster films to artistic meditations, from romantic nature experiences to astounding science fiction.

Why in Eye
Dark Waters is an urgent film that confronts us with the dark side of non-stick coatings. In a beautifully shot film with natural acting, Haynes shows how big capital and governments collaborate to unscrupulously sacrifice our health and environment to profits from the sale of Teflon-pans and waterproof clothing.
