Fish Tank
Andrea Arnold / GB, NL, 2009 / 123 min.
15-year-old Mia’s life is upended when her mother brings her new boyfriend home. Andrea Arnold’s powerful, stylish second feature film once again proves she is one of Britain’s best directors.

15-year-old Mia lives in a tiny flat in suburban Essex. Rejected by her friends and expelled from school, she tries to get by being mouthy. Her interfering sister and alcoholic mother just make things harder. Then she meets her mother’s new boyfriend. Mia is super impressed by the mysterious Connor (a great performance from Michael Fassbinder) and the attention he pays to her. Things come to a dramatic head when Connor also proves to have his secrets.
