Jonas Poher Rasmussen / DK, FR, SE, NO, US, 2021 / 89 min.
As a teen, filmmaker Jonas Poher Rasmussen befriended Afghan refugee Amin who tells his own story in this Danish animation and Oscar entry. That Amin sometimes bends the truth lends the film an intriguing extra dimension.

Oscar Nominee Best Documentary Feature, Best Animated Feature Film and Best International Feature Film. When the Mujahedeen attacked Kabul in around 1990, we see the inhabitants flee in panic or rather in roughly drawn, black and white animation, that incisively depicts the chaos. In other scenes colour returns and wit hit, more traditional animation. The style changes in sync with the story of Amin, the gay Afghan who fled his country as a child to ultimately find a new home in Denmark.
