MIVC: Echoes of Existence
MIVC: Echoes of Existence
What will remain when the world slips out of view? This programme, curated by The Master Institute of Visual Cultures (MIVC) at the St. Joost School of Art & Design, drifts through post-apocalyptic landscapes where self, memory, and time flicker as uncertain afterimages.

What would it be like if there was no ‘I’, if the lines that once intertwined and built our world fell still, silenced into an overwhelming pause – an absence of landscape where cosmos once thrived? Around the remains of performance, gestures detached from occasion drift inside of shrinking coordinates, where signals intersect but stay unresolved.
After the world quietly ended and humanity slipped offstage, something curious lingered in the dust – that old, resilient hum persisted; a residue refusing to disappear. The fear of losing moves through fleeting joys, leaving intangible shadows that echo across emotional ruins. Time, emptied of purpose, hangs in the air like a hollowed ornament of a vanished civilization, while the self wanders its own collapsed interiors in its archive of absence, lingering at thresholds it can no longer cross.
A scream – distant, delayed – shapes an everyday apocalypse, stretched across continents and the spaces between worlds. Here, creation and destruction coexist, producing an unfamiliar presence and a reality never fully grasped. If death is an apocalypse on the scale of an individual, then aging becomes the slow countdown toward it: an ouroboric collapse in which the past and the future nearly touch.
These short films gather what endures in the wake of endings, forming an echo of life that continues even when everything else has learned to stop.
