Pan's Labyrinth
Guillermo del Toro / ES, FR, MX, US, 2006 / 118 min.
An imaginative gothic fairytale for adults set in Spain during World War II. What happens when make-believe believes it's real? One of the most spellbinding fables of the 21st century.

In Spain in 1944, a girl is sent to live with her ruthless stepfather. During the night, she meets a fairy who takes her to an old faun. He tells her she's a princess, but must prove her royalty by surviving three gruesome tasks.
Pan's Labyrinth will be introduced by Alicia Bergamelli, one of Eye’s Programmers of the Future. Alicia curated the film programme The Tower of Crossed Destinies, from 23 through 25 July at Eye Filmmuseum, on folktales, fairytales and mythical stories and how these stories continue to shape cinema.
As an extension to the programme and as we reach the 20th anniversary of Guillermo del Toro’s Pan’s Labyrinth, the film explores the power of a child’s imagination and disobedience in the face of authoritarianism, making one of the most spellbinding fables of the 21st century.
The film is screened in 35mm print.
