The Dead Don't Die
Jim Jarmusch / SE, US, 2019 / 105 min.
Jarmusch’ charming, eccentric zombie comedy starts as a macabre satire on consumer culture but transforms into a sombre portrait of our existence as the walking dead. Featuring Met Tilda Swinton as an undertaker with a samurai sword.

Arctic fracking has jolted the earth from its axis, radio signals have stopped, the sun won’t set on time, and in the small town of Centerville the dead have risen to feast on the living. Jim Jarmusch’s homage to George A. Romero’s groundbreaking horror film Night of the Living Dead (1968), which, even back then, showed that zombies are the perfect metaphor for many of society's ills.
Tilda Swinton steals the show as a Scottish coroner with a samurai sword who is not afraid of anything.
Pre-film
Prior to The Dead Don’t Die, in which Tilda Swinton plays a samurai-sword-wielding funeral director, you will see the French newsreel Pathé Revue no. 42: L’après-midi d’une Japonaise (1920, 3') with a new score by Thijs Havens (Eye). Tilda Swinton hand-picked a short film, either from her rich oeuvre or from Eye’s collection, to precede all feature films.
