The Limits of Control is an action-free spy film, a free-form mystery set almost entirely in the time between story arcs. Isaach De Bankolé is The Lone Man, wandering a picturesque Spain. He is a man with a mission – something pertaining to a business complex run by Bill Murray – however the obscure objective is less important than the steps leading there. In the meantime, Bill Murray, Tilda Swinton and Gael García Bernal exchange mysterious cigarette boxes with a key role for the abstract paintings of, among others Antoni Tapies. Guitar strings as deadly weapons.

Pre-film

Prior to The Limits of Control, you will see the short French American co-production Physique diabolique by Segundo de Chomón (1912, 4’) with a new film score by Thijs Havens (Eye). An enigmatic film starring the devil, who sets himself on fire. Tilda Swinton hand-picked a short film, either from her rich oeuvre or from Eye’s collection, to precede all feature films.

Why in Eye

Spain with Jim Jarmusch. Favourite memories: the great cinematographer Christopher Doyle on giant padded platform shoes to carry the camera like a rudimentary steadicam. And Bill Murray giving me the key to his bike in Sevilla.
