The Man Who Wasn't There
Joel Coen / US, 2001 / 116 min.
Wonderful homage to film noir is a stylistic tour de force with plenty of adultery, blackmail and murder in which lethargic hairdresser (Billy Bob Thornton) seeks to escape his meaningless life. All he needs is 10,000 dollars.

Santa Rosa, 1949. Ed Crane (a phenomenal Billy Bob Thornton) is a creepy hairdresser with dead eyes who never speaks to anyone (“I only work here. I cut hair.”). Zhis life is akin to the slowly revolving hairdresser’s spiral on the facade. It may seem to move, but all it does is go around and around. Motionless, Crane stares at his client’s hair for hours, at the big nothing, imprisoned by the cage of his hairdressing salon.
