The Portuguese House
Avelina Prat / PT, ES, 2025 / 114 min.
After his wife leaves him, a geography professor swaps Barcelona for a job at a Portuguese quinta. Gentle, elegant drama about second chances featuring the wonderful acting of Manolo Solo (Pan's Labyrinth) and Maria de Medeiros (Pulp Fiction).

Fernando is a timid geography professor in Barcelona who loves paper maps. The latter don’t help when his wife leaves him one morning with her things but without warning or explanation, leaving him rudderless. Fernando decides to travel to north-western Portugal where he meets the gardener Manuel who is about to start working at a beautiful old country estate. When Manuel suddenly dies, on the spur of the moment, Fernando adopts his identity. He journeys to the ‘quinta’ owned by the idiosyncratic Amália, whom he develops a special, spontaneous friendship.
