Vlees
Victor Nieuwenhuijs, Maartje Seyferth / NL, 2010 / 83 min.
In this surreal and erotic thriller set within a butcher shop filled with carcasses, an artisanal butcher indulges in his perverse fantasies. After a celebratory evening, the butcher is found naked and murdered.

The young apprentice, Roxy, is drawn into the erotic allure of the butcher, capturing everything on her video camera. Despite the increasingly grotesque appearance of the meat, all characters delight in its consumption. After a celebratory evening, the butcher is found naked and murdered. Now, a detective must unravel the mystery and find the culprit.
Filmmakers Seyferth and Nieuwenhuijs once again cast renowned theater actor Titus Muizelaar in the dual role of butcher and detective for their fourth collaborative feature film. Actress Nellie Benner, who portrayed the butcher's girl, had previously appeared in another film production, Crepuscule.
Preceding Vlees (Meat) is the short film Een dag als 1000 jaren (1989, 9'), featuring scenes from the works of Dutch artist Geurt van Dijk, exploring passion and transience with apocalyptic imagery on the theme of life and death.
Retrospective
The release of Laatste dagen (Last Days), the latest film by independent film duo Victor Nieuwenhuijs and Maartje Seyferth, is reason for Eye to dedicate a retrospective to their 40-year collaboration within the production house Moskito Film. Their artistic short films, artist documentaries and often surreal, sensual and dark feature films challenge social norms and cinematic conventions.
"At Moskito Film, we embrace the pure and dark facets of human existence, fearlessly exploring themes that challenge and provoke. Our films are not merely stories; they are immersive experiences that invite audiences to confront the complexities of the human condition."
