Film programme Claire Denis – Trouble-Making Magic

16 January 2024 – From 29 February through 20 March, Eye Filmmuseum screens an extensive retrospective of the work of one of France’s most important filmmakers: Claire Denis.

Eye Meets Marmoucha

15 January 2024 – Eye Filmmuseum and Marmoucha, a collective for music and culture from North Africa and the Middle East, join forces and present three mini-festivals, with screenings of special silent films with live musical accompaniment.

Films of Ed van der Elsken Released on Eye Film Player

6 December 2023 – Ed van der Elsken achieved fame as a photographer, but he was also a keen filmmaker. Nearly all of Van der Elsken’s films from the Eye collection have now undergone high-quality remastering and can be seen from 6 December, free of charge, worldwide on Eye’s streaming service, the Eye Film Player.

29 November 2023 – Eye Filmmuseum announces its exhibitions and film programmes' selection for 2024, including, among others, three new exhibitions and film programmes around Claire Denis, the Coen Brothers, Powell & Pressburger and Satyajit Ray.

Véréna Paravel & Lucien Castaing-Taylor – Cosmic Realism

27 November 2023 – Eye Filmmuseum is presenting the exhibition Cosmic Realism, the first retrospective of work by Véréna Paravel and Lucien Castaing-Taylor. On display from 20 January 2024.

Britain's Brightest – The films of Andrea Arnold & Lynne Ramsay

18 October 2023 – Eye Filmmuseum presents an extensive film programme dedicated to the work of two directors not afraid to go their own way: Andrea Arnold & Lynne Ramsay. On show from 1 December until 3 January 2024.

Xtended and DocLab present: Shadowtime & Our Ark

12 October 2023 – Eye Filmmuseum's Xtended programme and IDFA DocLab present the Dutch premiere of the VR experience Shadowtime as well as the screening of the short film Our Ark (2021) by Kathryn Hamilton and Deniz Tortum. On show from 10 until 19 November 2023, during IDFA. Press release in Dutch.

5 October 2023 – Eye Filmmuseum celebrates the 100th anniversary of the revolutionary 16mm film format in the Sweet 16 programme. Press release in Dutch.

Donna: Women in Revolt streams worldwide for free on Eye Film Player

6 September 2023 – The documentary Donna: Women in Revolt can be streamed free of charge worldwide on Eye Film Player from Friday 22 September. This special time capsule was recently digitally restored by Eye.

Janis Rafa – Feed me. Cheat me. Eat me.

31 August 2023 – Eye Filmmuseum presents a solo exhibition by artist and filmmaker Janis Rafa. Her evocative films and video installations focus on relations between humans and other creatures. On display from 14 October 2023.

18 July 2023 – Eye Filmmuseum is screening the work of one of the most brilliant screenwriters and directors of Hollywood’s Golden Age. Never before has a retrospective of Sturges' films been shown in the Netherlands.

Programmers of the Future film programme makes debut

The programme will feature cinema from the African diaspora that counters the notion of a singular reality, female artists on masculinity and alternative visual geographies of the former Soviet Union.

Sunsets: classics by female directors in the open air

23 May 2023 – Enjoy a relaxed, sultry summer evening with a special film and a drink at the open-air screenings of Eye Filmmuseum. From 23 to 27 August, at sunset, you can watch the most beautiful films from female directors such as Agnès Varda, Věra Chytilová and Jennie Livingston.

8 May 2023 – Once again this summer, Eye Filmmuseum presents a special selection of contemporary films with Previously Unreleased: various titles that stood out at prominent film festivals at home and abroad, but were not released in Dutch cinemas and film theatres.

Werner Herzog ­– The Ecstatic Truth

3 May 2023 – From 18 June, Eye Filmmuseum presents an exhibition and extensive film programme around the work of celebrated filmmaker Werner Herzog, who last year reached the age of eighty. With an unorthodox oeuvre, Herzog has fascinated audiences with unforgettable stories, images and characters for more than half a century.

VR experience Walzer brings first-wave feminism to life

25 April 2023 – In the Walzer VR experience by Frieda Gustavs and Leo Erken, you take a journey through a landscape of thousands of women's photos from the first wave of feminism. With this virtual reality, Walzer has found a new way to make archive material accessible to everyone.

Eye Film Player available for free for education

4 April 2023 – Eye Film Player, Eye Filmmuseum's streaming service, makes all films available for education free of charge. Teachers can request a free account to watch films in class that are related to their subject.

14 March 2023 – Eye Filmmuseum presents a film programme around Felix de Rooy - a comprehensive overview of the Curaçao-Dutch artist as director and actor.
