The focus is on the collection of Dutch posters, but Eye also possesses foreign posters of Dutch films. For instance, we have unique designs from post-war Poland, the Czech Republic and Cuba, where especially beautiful posters were made between 1945 and 1965.
Posters
Eye manages approximately 64,000 unique posters from different countries and periods. Posters were usually made to promote films, but they can also be important in themselves. Eye collects and presents posters with artistic or film historical value.
Newly acquired posters are registered on arrival, after which they are photographed and digitized. Eye keeps the posters lying flat in acid-free archival boxes, at a controlled temperature and humidity.
VPRO Cinema Extra made an episode about the film poster, in which Eye curator Soeluh van den Berg talks about the history of film posters. Programmer and film poster collector Ronald Simons talks about his hobby that got out of hand.
On view in Eye is a changing selection that reflects the regular programming.
Digitized photos, posters, movie stills can be browsed in the Eye Study.
