Celluloid Remix

A creative editing workshop based on old film clips. Watch, cut and remix: in this workshop pupils will make a video clip based on old film clips from Eye’s collection. The images are over 100 years old, but they still look fresh thanks to smart editing tricks. Is it possible to make someone from 1910 dance to modern music? It’s all happening in the Celluloid Remix workshop.

Free experiments

By combining images and processing them (rotating, colouring, rewinding, cutting up) pupils will discover the power of editing. There are no hard and fast rules for remixing, and pupils are free to experiment with the archival material.

The workshop starts with a bit of inspiration: pupils will watch video clips of famous artists and VJs. They will then form pairs to remix their images. The three film educators will be there to assist them with every step. At the end of the session, all remixes will be screened.

Dutch film heritage

Some extra fun: Every year our collection specialist selects a number of these remixes for Eye’s collection. The remixes made by your pupils may end up as part of Dutch film heritage.

Pro version

A pro version of this workshop is available for groups of pupils with more experience in making films. The advanced pupils chose one of two assignments (video clip or short film), and are given more editing time. Are you unsure whether the pro version is suitable? Do not hesitate to contact us.
