SEE NL Film Catalogues

The SEE NL Film Catalogue is published every year in January. This English-language film catalogue presents a current overview of the latest and upcoming Dutch films, ranging from feature films, documentaries, short films and animation to experimental films. The catalogue is distributed in a paper and a digital edition all over the world and is used by festival programmers, sales agents, distributors and journalists. This year we will be publishing separate catalogues for feature films, documentaries and short films, in order to respond even better to the questions and needs of the various film professionals. For additional information about the SEE NL Film Catalogues, please contact Nathalie Mierop.

Selected Dutch Shorts

Every year, SEE NL produces Selected Dutch Shorts, a selection of the year’s Dutch short films that have the greatest international potential. This selection is carefully compiled by a committee of Dutch film professionals and covers all genres. Selected Dutch Shorts is launched every year at the Clermont-Ferrand International Short Film Festival (one of the most important international film festivals for short films) and subsequently actively promoted by SEE NL on the international festival circuit. Every year in September/October a call goes out to all Dutch producers, asking them to submit short films for this selection. For additional information about the Selected Dutch Shorts, please contact Edith van der Heijde.

Selected Dutch Experimentals

Eye distributes and promotes a selection of Dutch experimental film to international film festivals and exhibitors under the banner of Eye Experimental. With the help of a committee, Eye selects about 10 recent films per year for a modest catalogue of Dutch experimental films and artists’ moving image works. These range from works by established filmmakers to graduation projects by young filmmakers. Eye advises on festival strategies and supports the distribution and promotion of these films with regard to festivals.

In addition, we offer these films the option of being included in Eye’s archive after having toured festivals for two years. Being mindful of the activities of the former Filmbank (of which Eye Experimental’s archive is the continuation, following the 2012 merger of Eye and Filmbank), this is how we strive to bring Dutch experimental films and artists’ moving image works to the attention of international exhibitors. However, selecting a film for this catalogue is not intended as a substitute for active distribution, so when a film is selected we expect the filmmakers themselves to actively submit their work to festivals. Eye is involved in this process as consultant and support, for example by bringing the film to the attention of festival programmers in its network, providing screeners and screening material and recommending potentially suitable festivals. The selection committee meets twice a year, in June and December, to compile a new selection for the catalogue.
