In addition, there are two focus programmes - Around Masculinity, on the debate about masculinity, and Playing Reality, about theatre as space and concept - wherein IDFA bridges the gap between urgent themes and documentary history. DocLab, IDFA's interactive and immersive documentaries programme, is celebrating its sixteenth edition entitled Nervous Systems.

This year, a special programme will be dedicated to the American filmmaker and activist Laura Poitras, who is IDFA 2022's guest of honour. The festival will screen Poitras' complete oeuvre, including her latest film All the Beauty and the Bloodshed, which was recently awarded a Golden Lion. Poitras also compiled a Top 10 of films for IDFA that touch on her passion for documentary cinema.
