Eric Visser’s investigation into a serial killer takes a very unexpected turn after a dalliance with diver Laura (Monique van de Ven) who is undergoing therapy with a suspect, the psychiatrist Ruysdael. Featuring a wonderful cast of favourites familiar to Dutch audiences of the 1980s, including Serge-Henri Valcke, Hidde Maas, Jaap Stobbe and Tatum Dagelet as a foul-mouthed teenager, cameos by Bert Haanstra and Simon van Collem, and a theme tune by Dutch band Loïs Lane. During the legendary speedboat chase, that was filmed on the canals of Utrecht, Stapel hit the quayside so hard he seriously injured his ribs.

In 2026, it will be forty years since the popular comedy Flodder shook up the film landscape. That same year, Dick Maas celebrates his 75th birthday — the perfect occasion for a look back at the work of the Dutch “king of genre,” who managed to draw millions of Dutch viewers to the cinema.
