Bouchra
Orian Barki, Meriem Bennani / US, IT, MA, 2025 / 83 min.
Bouchra, a queer filmmaker in New York calls her mother in Morocco. Bouchra is a coyote and so is her mother. Orian Barki and Meriem Bennani’s first feature-length animation is an imaginative, disarming tale about a complex mother-daughter relationship.

Bouchra has been staring at the empty pages of her script for some time. She wants to tell the story of a queer filmmaker from Casablanca who moved to New York to start a new life and the role the latter’s mother, a cardiologist, played in that decision to leave. The problem is how to visualise the narrative, what were the details? Bouchra picks up her phone.
In Eye and in national cinemas.
