Gentlemen Prefer Blondes
Howard Hawks / US, 1953 / 91 min.
Marilyn Monroe is outstanding in this delightful musical comedy as the gold digger from Little Rock who bowls over Paris together with her sassy friend Jane Russell. With the famous song ‘Diamonds are a girl’s best friend’. Monroe would have turned 100 this year.

In perhaps Marilyn Monroe’s most popular film she enthusiastically plays the glamorous blonde showgirl Lorelei who is determined to marry her wealthy beau so that “pure love isn’t sullied by money worries”. Her friend Dorothy, a brunette, prefers to follow her heart. The two opposites amusing escapades alternate with stylish, surreal dance routines. Lorelei personified by a quote: “Don't you know a man being rich is like a girl being pretty? You may not marry a girl just because she's pretty, but my goodness, doesn't it help?”
