Some Like It Hot

Billy Wilder / US, 1959 / 122 min.

Mix Billy Wilder’s dry humour, the deadpan faces of Jack Lemmon and Tony Curtis, the sex appeal of Marilyn Monroe and a fast-paced storyline and what you get is the hilarious screwball comedy and gender-bending classic Some Like It Hot.

Chicago, the roaring twenties. Joe and Jerry are jazz musicians who witness a bloodbath between rival gangsters and hide out among an all-girl orchestra on its way to Florida by cross-dressing. Both Joe and Jerry are smitten by the sexy, ostensibly naïve Sugar (Monroe), the ukelele-playing band leader who coquettishly sings: “I wanna be loved by you”.
