Les amants du Pont-Neuf
Leos Carax / FR, 1991 / 123 min.
Hypnotic drama about the impossible love between two vagabonds in Paris’ city centre. A mad fairy tale/dream/nightmare of a film that surpasses all cinema’s boundaries. Featuring Juliette Binoche and Denis Lavant.

A young, unhoused man named Alex lives on the Pont-Neuf bridge in Paris’ city centre as it is closed due to construction work. One night, on the eve of the 200th anniversary of the French Revolution, he meets the travelling painter Michèle. The young woman, who is slowly going blind, has increasing difficulty surviving the busy metropolis. The impossible love between the two changes their lives into a small miracle, a captivating dance, in which Carax – as per usual – does not avoid excess.
