European Film Promotion & SEE NL

SEE NL is a member of European Film Promotion (EFP). EFP was established in 1997 by ten members and has since become a leading international promotional body in Europe. Its membership has increased to 37 organisations from 36 European countries. EFP offers a wide range of promotional programmes and strategies for the European film industry, focusing on three core areas: promotion of films and talent, access to international markets and support of film sales. EFP primarily offers B2B programmes and initiatives developed in collaboration with established partners, with the aim of supporting European cinema within Europe and beyond.

European culture, values and diversity are integral to all EFP’s initiatives. For this reason, EFP relies on the national expertise and know-how which each of the 37 members bring to the table in representing their local film industries. The vast majority of Europe is represented in the EFP. By now, EFP has become a leading international promotor of European cinema for the international industry, the media and the public. EFP organises special events at international film festivals including Berlin, Cannes, Karlovy Vary, Sydney, Busan and Toronto.

Shooting Stars

Every year, European Film Promotion (EFP) organises European Shooting Stars at the Berlinale, with the aim of highlighting European acting talent.

More information

Every EFP member organisation is entitled to put forward one actor for the Shooting Stars programme. A jury of international professionals selects the ten most promising and versatile European actors from all the candidates, who then participate in the prestigious event. For four days they are presented to the international film industry, the public and the media. They participate in a specially designed programme that enables them to meet over 80 prominent international casting directors, producers and filmmakers. This lays the groundwork for a professional network that is essential for launching an international career. The event concludes with an award ceremony at the Berlinale Palast, at which all these talented actors receive a European Shooting Star Award.

Producers on the Move

Every year, European Film Promotion organises Producers on the Move at the Cannes International Film Festival. The aim of this programme is to connect talented European producers with potential partners for co-productions, to enhance their professional networks while at the same time offering a robust and visible platform for this new generation of European filmmakers.

More information

Like other EFP member organisations, SEE NL can nominate one producer every year for the Producers on the Move programme. The best 20 producers are selected from the nominees by means of a points system, which quantifies the following criteria:

- The producer’s experience in the area of international co-productions (the minimum requirement is one international co-production, maximum is three). Priority is given to majority co-productions.
- One feature film or feature-length documentary produced by the producer has been released in cinemas and or on VoD/SVoD/DVD/TV outside the country/countries where the film was produced.
- One feature film or feature-length documentary produced by the producer has been screened as part of the international programme of one of the major film festivals.
- One of the producer’s films has won their national award for Best Film.
- The producer is working on a project that is suitable for international co-production.

In the course of the five-day Producers on the Move platform at Cannes, the 20 selected producers participate in a programme consisting of project pitching, 1:1 meetings, case studies, networking events and an extensive media campaign.
