The location is prestigious, the ambitions are great: the organization of the Septimius Awards has been awarding prizes in no fewer than thirty categories since 2022 and promotes itself as the first truly global awards festival. Unlike usual, it will award nominations and awards for Best Actor, Best Actress and Best Picture by continent, which would give global talent more opportunities for professional recognition.
For example, at the first edition, the Dutchman Frank Lammers was awarded the prize for Best European Actor, after which a global awards shower followed, from Best Oceanian Actress to Best African Actor. Last year there, were a surprising number of Dutch winners: Videoland production Mocro Maffia won the prize for best series and the prize for best screenplay went to the Dutch Netflix series Dirty Lines.
But who actually selects all those nominees? And who is on the jury of the Septimius Awards? The organization is quite secretive about this. And why do some of the nominees have to pay a lot of money to be able to attend the award ceremony at all?
In this new episode of Op de vijfde rij..., Cesar Majorana investigates the matter. He is present at the second edition of the awards gala, held in the International Theater Amsterdam, and goes to look for the mysterious jury.
Op de vijfde rij at the Septimius Awards

(On the fifth row...) received numerous messages about a Dutch awards gala that has been organized in Amsterdam since 2022: the Septimius Awards. Is it a kosher awards show, several people from the Dutch film world wondered.
