We open a new season of the public lecture series This is Film! Film Heritage in Practice by inviting Hollywood-based negative cutter Mo Henry.
The theme of the first This is Film! session will focus on analogue film formats. Acclaimed negative cutter Mo Henry will give her unique perspective on the matter and talk with us about the challenges of her job. In the analogue era, when films were still made of celluloid strips, the negative cutter used to match the camera negative of a film and conform it to the final editing as decided by the filmmakers.
the celluloid tradition
In her long career, Mo Henry has worked on more than 300 film titles which include features like The Matrix, The Dark Knight Rises, Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, and The Other Side of the Wind. Today, she still works with a handful of filmmakers who choose to shoot their film on celluloid rather than digitally, these include Christopher Nolan, Paul Thomas Anderson, and Tacita Dean.
The session will focus on Henry”s work in Christopher Nolan”s masterpiece Interstellar and the specificities, issues and perks of working on films with such unique and non-linear post-production.
